Liberty Baptist Fellowship

WELCOME

Thank you for taking a moment to look at our web site. We are a small independent, Bible-teaching Baptist Church in the heart of downtown Medina. We predominantly use the King James Version and sing from a standard hymnal.

Our Background:
Liberty Baptist Fellowship is conceived

In December 2000, we wanted to plant the church in the heart of Medina with Medina on our hearts. After an open and frank discussion, the group agreed to plant Liberty Baptist Fellowship at 111 North Broadway. The average age of the charter members would be around 70. Immediately several families joined in the work as word spread about the new church. Many dear Christians who were serving the Lord in other churches gave freely of their time and talents to help us get the job done. We open the doors for our first public worship in our new facility on March 31, 2001.

Meet our pastor

Pastor Max and a group of bible-believing Christians started Liberty Baptist Fellowship at 111 North Broadway in Medina 25 years ago. Pastor Max entered the ministry in 1964 and has been the pastor of large Baptist churches and medium-sized Baptist churches and small Baptist churches. Along the way He also taught eight years at Faith Baptist Bible College in Ankeny, Iowa and 17 years at the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio. Pastor Max loves to teach the Scriptures as they apply to our daily lives. He teaches book by book both in the Old Testament and New Testament.

He is down to earth and very practical. If you are a student of the Word, you will love his teaching.

Ministries: Being in the center of Medina, our congregation is composed mainly of people over 45 years of age because we do not have a children’s ministries.  We have a solid but limited music ministry and are always looking for those who would share their talents with our church family.  We have an Adult Sunday School that is interactive. We have a very active Ladies Bible Study that meets twice a month.  We have a once a month Men’s Breakfast for fellowship.  We also have an active church worship at The Avenue in Medina.

Missions: Our mission program is at the heart of our church. We started 20 years ago with 4 families: Mike and Lori Bliss (Jordan), Ross and Karin Riggs (Eastern Europe), Brent and Tammy Lowe (Portugal) and Larry Skrant (Changed Lives Ministries).  Mark and Anne Gostlin (France) and Rachel Gostlin (France) were with us for a brief period of time as well. Jim and Melony Evans served us well for 2 years.  Our current mission family consists of Larry Skrant (Addicts at the Cross), Brent and Tammy Lowe (ABWE home office), Robert and April Brooks(CRU), Jason and Kelly Perlak (Christian Wilderness Camp), Jonathan and Clarinda Halk (Zambia) and Sam and Hanni Roodi(Iranian Ministries).

Our goal in missions is to be a supply line church.  We desire that God would lay on our hearts missionaries, churches and ministries that need someone to come alongside for a brief period of time to help them in their work.  We are in weekly contact with all of our missionaries to make sure their needs are met.

Doctrinal beliefs: Baptists believe in these cardinal roots:

B – The Bible is Our Final Authority.

A – Autonomy of the local church.

P – Priesthood of the believer.

T – Two church ordinances: baptism and the Lord’s supper.

I – Individual soul liberty.

S – Saved church membership.

T – Two offices: pastor and deacon.

We also follow the Romans Road in salvation.  We are a pre-millennial, dispensational church that believes Jesus is returning soon for His church.

Fellowship: Fellowship the is the key to Christian growth.  We as a local church draw strength from one another in supporting one another in every way we possibly can.  We believe the Bible teaches that we are to bear one another’s burdens.  We have a very strong active prayer ministry for our own people and our missionaries.  We are also deeply grateful for the opportunity to live in the land of the free and the home of the brave.  We do not take lightly our responsibility to be good stewards of what we have.

You may wonder why our name is Liberty Baptist Fellowship.  Let me explain.  We are Liberty because all of the charter members were members of First Baptist Church, 123 W. Liberty in Medina.  We are Baptists because of what we believe about the Bible.  And Fellowship is a Greek word which means partnering together.  We are a family that takes a great deal of pride in being a family.  That means that we partner together for the Glory of God.

If God would lay it upon your heart to visit, we would welcome you! We would also love to have you consider being a part of our family as we attempt to reach this part of God’s vineyard.

autumn

Autumn is a favorite season

The smells of pumpkin and spices and the sound of dried leaves rustling in the wind are nature's music. Excitedly, autumn also holds biblical significance. The Old Testament gives us gospel hope as we remember the fall feasts among the ancient Israelites. The Israelites were God's chosen people through whom He revealed His plan of redemption. The Israelites viewed autumn in light of harvest, a period when crops are gathered. To accompany the harvest season, God told the Israelites to celebrate three festivals:

  1. The Feast of Trumpets began with a blast of a trumpet. The instrument's sound gathered the people and signified the arrival of God as their King.

  2. The Day of Atonement was when the high priest entered the Holy of Holies, the place where the glory of God resided. Animal sacrifices were made, and then a goat was released into the wilderness. These symbolized sin's payment and its removal from the people of God.

  3. The Feast of Tabernacles was a time to remember God dwelled with the Israelites during their wilderness journey. The Israelites feasted and rejoiced in God's provision.

As the crisp autumn air comes in, view this time through the lens of biblical truth in the New Testament—remembering the sacrifice God made for us through His Son so we could have eternal life.
